What is erythema exactly?
A skin irritation or dermatitis of the seat which generally occurs around the 7-12 months of the baby. At this age, baby's skin is fragile and dries out easily. Not contagious and not serious, this condition is however embarrassing or even painful.
Yes, but not only! Indeed, maceration in the diaper can cause erythema (friction, urine, etc.). But other causes can be at the origin of this inflammation: negligence in baby's hygiene, the use of abrasive care such as wipes, nasopharyngitis, diarrhea, taking antibiotics.
And the symptoms?
They can last 3 or 4 days. We recognize an erythema if baby has:
